Are all-season tires good for winter?

Some tire manufacturers will use the term “all-season” in their tire name, but are they really made for winter? Not so fast! “All-season” doesn’t mean “all-weather”. Depending on the brand, the treads are not designed for rough winter conditions.

What is a run-flat tire?

A run-flat tire is a tire that is designed to run for a period of time without air inside: run-on-flat! This type of tire is common on higher end vehicles that do not have spare wheels. What is a TPMS?

The vast majority of vehicles today (but not all!) come with tire pressure monitoring sensors (TPMS). These small devices are installed in the wheels of your car and monitor the pressure of your tires on the dashboard of your car. When one of your tires loses a lot of air, your dashboard will warn you instead of driving on until you get a flat.

You can buy TPMS by adding them in your shopping cart. Contact us by email at info@tiredirect.ca to make sure your car has TPMS. Get more information about TPMS on our blog.

Can we replace just one tire?

Simply take a quarter and insert it between two grooves in the bottom of the tire, making sure that the nose of the moose is facing down. If the moose nose disappears, your tires are still good. If the nose is visible, you should consider changing your tires for your own safety. The thickness is less than 6/32.
